“Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions.”

Vladimir and The Donald

And so it continues. Now into week three of the Russian invasion, a word Americans but not Russians are free to use, our TV news is repetitive.

A humanitarian evacuation corridor opens, then the Russians attack it as well as other civilian targets. The poor Russian diplomats lie, hoping against the odds that someone will believe them. Then there is more violence and Putin threatens a new horror, this time chemical weapons. Now Russia is to bring in Middle Eastern fighters, perhaps the Mujahadeen who kicked their ass before. And all the while millions of Ukrainians have left their homes and their country and are asking one very simple question: why must we do this? I wish there was someone who could explain that to me because I don’t know either.

Could it be as simple as Putin’s Napoleonic complex? An intriguing pair of transportation stories were in the news this week. In one, Trump was flying back from a Republican love fest and his plane blew an engine and made an emergency landing. Apparently he is the only private party in the United States who has a Boeing 757 as his personal aircraft. Before his creditors made him sell it, Trump’s marine transportation was the 282 foot Trump Princess, bought from a famous middle Eastern arms dealer when it was known as Nabila. Trump was also teased for his famously small fingers.

In similar fashion, Putin and his circle seem to be enthusiastic mariners. One of the world’s largest mega-yachts, this one rumored to be Putin’s, is a 459-foot, $700 million beauty called Scheherazade. Two helicopter landing pads, a gym, pool, movie theater and more, the boat is now moored off the Tuscan coast of Italy. Putin is only 5’7”, possibly with lifts in his shoes.

Now consider this pair, Trump and Putin. Small fingers for one, short stature for the other. Huge private airplane for one, huge motor yacht for the other. One orders hospitals to be bombed. The other lauds the Ukrainian invasion plan as “genius” and wishes he’d thought of it for the southern border. He only separated families at the border and barely killed anyone at all, if you don’t count Covid deaths.

For these clowns two million people need to leave their homes?

Oh yes, Napoleon was only 5’6” and destroyed what remained of the French Revolution, leaving a monarchy in its place.
